Q: What inspired you to start your business?
Karyn: I’ve been practicing law for 33 years, but the first 26 years I was someone else’s employee. That meant there was always someone else who got to make most of the decisions around my work environment, my caseload, and my income. When I went through my own divorce, I realized it was time for me to take ownership not only of my personal life, but my professional life too. I love being able to set an example for my three daughters. Even though there is more to juggle when you own your own business, there’s more reward also. My girls have been hugely supportive of me and my work (and workload), but seeing me run my own business successfully gives them the confidence to have big ideas also.

Q: What do you offer?
Karyn: Right now I’m gently easing away from divorce litigation and focusing my practice on:
1. Divorce Mediation and Collaborative Divorce (helping couples get divorced while being cordial and using the right team of professionals to get the right result);
2. Marital Mediation (helping couples overcome potential issues so they can plan for marriage or stay married);
3. Divorce Coaching and Strategic Planning (helping individuals prioritize legal and financial needs and goals in their divorce so they can emerge strong, whether or not they have attorneys);
4. Pre/Post Nuptial Agreements (helping individuals preserve pre-marital assets/debts in a way that works best for their family).
-
Q: What is your favorite thing about your business?
Karyn: Freedom.
-
Q: What keeps you motivated every day?
Karyn: I have a pile of post-divorce “thank you!” notes from clients who appreciate the help I gave them on their journey. Divorce is VERY hard, and people are not always at their best. It is very gratifying to know (and hear) that I have helped them get to the other side of that journey in a productive way.

Q: Why did you want photos?
Karyn: Shouldn’t you be the face of your business? Shouldn’t that photo reflect your actual face?
-
Q: What advice do you have for other entrepreneurs?
Karyn: Just do it! Believe in yourself and plan accordingly.
